RainforestMaker’s Mission is to grow back the Earth’s rainforests.
We are committed to raising awareness, encouraging people to live more in balance with nature, and inspiring them and the companies they work for to replant the trees they have used. The Earth is at a critical stage in its history and we have the ability to preserve it.
When you read a newspaper or magazine, how many of us acknowledge to ourselves that the paper we are holding in our hands came from a live being? The same idea can be applied to our food? Do we ever take time, even for a split second, to express gratitude to the live being that was sacrificed so it may fulfill one of our needs?
The truth is that once you take even a small amount of time to acknowledge and express gratitude for the food you are eating and the paper you are reading, you will soon develop a closer connection to the Earth and all of your surroundings. Once you feel this connection to the Earth, you will naturally want to nurture it because you are a part of this Earth, not just someone living on it.
If you live in the United States, the bulk of the paper comes from trees cut down in Canada and the South East portion of the US. Unless we live in those areas, most of us do not think twice about the trees being cut down there. The destruction is too far removed from our day to day activities. But what if the only way we could satisfy our paper needs was to cut down trees within fifty miles from our homes. How would we feel about it then?
There's no longer any doubt. Scientists from around the world confirm that The Earth is in a real crisis. There is also no doubt that human activities have caused this crisis. Carbon Dioxide levels on the Earth are now 27% higher than at any point in the past 650,000 years. This has caused Global Warming.
What has compounded the problem is the alarming rate at which the planet's life-giving rain forests are being extinguished. Rainforests are being destroyed because the value of timber is perceived as the highest value of rainforest land. The truth is that rainforests are worth more alive than dead. The average tree will store an average of 1.5 tons of carbon. Each time a tree is killed, not only are we permanently preventing that tree from ever storing more carbon in the future, but we are also releasing that tree's carbon back into the atmosphere. This compounding effect of preventing and releasing is destroying the Earth's ability to balance itself.
The reality is that if we do not join together to offset our adverse effects, we will place the Earth on a course that will severely hinder the Earth's ability to nurture life as we know it. These are the facts.
The other truth is that as long as people and corporations consume and demand paper and wood, there will be a company to supply it to them. This is the way of things.
But perhaps humans two greatest achievements have been to adapt and create. We already have the knowledge and technology to live more in balance with the Earth. Now all we need is the intention to do so.
There are many ways to live life in balance with nature. It is our hope you will integrate some simple suggestions into your life. Living life in harmony with nature is soul nourishing.
It is also our vision to help change the way people think and feel about consuming products in a way that resonates more with the Earth. Specifically, it is our hope that people will place at least the same or higher value on nature as they do on the goods they consume. Until one can build a foundation of awareness as to how one consumes their goods, it becomes difficult to change the previous pattern of unconscious consuming.
Amazingly, it does not take a lot of effort to raise your awareness as to how you consume your goods. It simply requires you to develop an intention to do so. Once you honestly commit to focus your attention, your intention will naturally lead you to consume goods more consciously.
Remember, placing a high value on nature is a perfect place to begin. In fact, once you cherish nature, it will allow you the opening to connect more fully with the Earth. Now, it will be you that is planting the seeds of conscious consuming by setting the example for others!
The math is simple. If humans consume more natural resources than they or the Earth can replenish, then eventually humans will deplete the Earth's resources.
At least for paper and wood products, the answer is simple. Replant the trees you used. Individuals and companies can achieve this with ease. It simply requires a commitment to do so.
It only takes one person to make a difference. And then another. And then another. Soon, a small difference becomes a big one. And a big difference can save the world!.
